Note the pic below. My irrigation is comes from the plumbing off the valve with the red handle. That valve has a slow leak. I have tried opening an closing several times to ensure that it gets shut completely. It still leaks. I guess it needs to be replaced. I am, in no way, a plumber. But I am moderately handy. I installed the irrigation in the pic about 20 years ago. However, I do not know how to go about making the repair to replace the red handle shut-off valve. I dont know where to cut so that I have enough room to install a replacement. Please help with where and how to cut or unglue (if that is a thing). I appreciate feedback.

Thanks, Mike

I was just watching a video about using a heat gun to remove the fitting. Is this a reasonable thing to do? Could I cut the irrigation close to the ground; then cut the male 1" on either side of the shut off valve. Then use a heat gun to remove the remaining 1" male from the tee. Get a new valve and reinstall? Is this reasonable?

There's a union on the right with plenty of pipe above. Cut off above the union couple on new pipe on and rebuild. Less time an effort than playing around trying to save a $1 fitting. I would pipe it all the way back to the galvanized tee with PVC, not sure why that section of PEX is there.

As my leak is very slow (1 drop every 3 seconds or so), it is not an emergency to fix. I will attempt the fix this weekend. I will let you know the results in the coming days. Thanks for the advice.
