Hi,

I installed a new IKEA sink and the drain isn't draining.

I pulled everything apart and found no blockages. So, that must mean it's in the main pipe in the wall. I snaked it as far as I could and got nothing (probably 4-5 feet total). My snake is a bit wimpy and couldn't get past the next elbow.

I didn't see a lot of water spilling out of the wall drain when I pulled my snake out, but it still has to be in the wall, right?

Probably cheaper for me to buy a better snake. What should I get?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

A very good hand spinner snake is a Ridgid K 25 or 26.
You might find them listed with different model numbers.
They all look alike and all are good.

25 feet long, 5/16 thick cable.
Pig tail type of head.

I do not like the drop head type (wobble head).
Others here may prefer them.

Prices range from about $85 to about$140.

I think the difference is the higher priced ones have aluminum parts in place of plastic.
And I believe the pricier ones have a dual core cable, so there is a separate reinforcing wire inside the spiral cable.
Not certain about the dual core, the websites will say either way.

I have used my all plastic version for over thirty years, with great success.

It goes past ornery fittings, and you can feel what the cable is doing.

One big tip is to crank the opposite way, if the cable refuses to advance.

Apply slight forward pressure but never force it.

If the cable starts binding up, reverse, pull back, try again the opposite crank direction.

Watch several videos on using a drain snake, it takes practice and skill and intuition.
