Plumbing Pros,

I'm installing a PVC closet flange and am just wondering which of the two sets of openings to use on the flange. I think I once remember saying it was better to use the "non-sliding" (B in image below) openings because the plastic was thicker under them, but on my flange at least, the retaining plastic seems to be the same thickness on both.

I'm sure it doesn't really matter and either would be fine. I guess I'm leaning toward the "sliding" ones (A) since it will allow me to perfectly position the toilet?... then again, if I use the B set, it might be easier to drop the toilet on through the wax ring?

Just wondering what you pros usually do.

Thanks!

I always use the A slots. This allows me to adjust the toilet forward or backward on the flange just a little bit.

When using a PVC ringed flange, using the B slots is definitely stronger, but I use stainless ring flanges, and secure them to the floor really well.

I always use the A slot. I prefer the B because it's stronger but I can never seem to get the bolts back out from under it should I need to. Maybe I'm cursed.

Thanks all... Do you think that it's worth getting a stainless ringed one instead? I already have this, but want to put in something that will really last. It's all new subfloor/tile/etc, so I have a good base to build upon... Is PVC ok?

If you are a DIYer you might want to go with a metal flange. I only say this because DIYer usually overtighten the closet bolt during installation, especially if the floor is not level.

i am going to stick by my saying metal is always better then plastic. you only get one chance to get it right with plastic. metal is a little more forgiving
