Shower valve/cartridge?

I was trying to diagnosed a slight drip from shower faucet only to make it worse when removing cartridge. When I pulled cartridge, this is what I'm looking at. Is this (plate with oval shaped holes)part of the cartridge that didn't come out? Or part of valve?

Yes they are rubber caps and springs. I'll get more pics here shortly
