Hi All Newbie here.
I am currently overseas so I am relaying to you all what my wife is telling me.
I bought a house built in 1989, for my mother in law ( I know, i Know........) in July, All the plumbing is copper, the shower faucet has never been an issue and now all of a sudden it is making a very very loud noise like the pipes are clanking, ( that is what is being told to me) I had my wife go into the basement and there is no movement of the pipes going to the shower/tub.
After a minute or so it gets slightly better but still very loud.

does anyone have an idea what should be looked at? I cant see it cavitating as the whole house is working fine with no plumbing issues, just the shower faucet
is acting up. it is doing it when the shower head is off and the faucet on and with faucet of and shower head on, as long as water is running in the shower it is making a noise.

Thank you all for any help as my moms BF called his brother who is my plumber and he had no clue. I hate to pay a guy 65 dollars an hr to come to my house when he has no clue where to look first

forget to add, it is a single faucet type that supplies water to the tub and shower head
thanks
Larry

Check the balancing spool in the valve and 65 an hour is a low rate

thanks all for the response so far,

I will have my wife send pictures in a few hrs. She has just told me via skype that it is a deep moaning sound.

I live in BFE northern Maine and that is expensive for up here, especially since the experts are more like installers and not troubleshooters, My plumber said he had no clue, you would think he would have a couple of ideas at least, and not say,"i dont have a clue"

Update
Sorry for the long delay for a update, the Issue was the shower spout, when they pulled up on the spout lever for the shower and the internal valve would not put all the water to the shower head, It would leak by and make a cavitating sound. replaced the spout, took 10 min and all good

Thanks for the update.
Often hard to diagnose something like that from a chair in front of a monitor.
From here I would have never guessed that.

Did you pay the $65?
Sometimes the problem is pretty obvious if you're right there in front of it.

And that's why the guy said he had no clue. It can literally be one of a thousand things.
