You could try strapping the float up, and see if the water goes down. That way it would give you an extended time to see if the water in the tank drops. There isn't anything under the fill valve but the connection to your incomming water supply, so if there is a leak there, it's on the floor. Wrap a paper towel around it, see if it gets wet.

okay I can try that...there isn't any water on the floor checked that before as well. Thanks..good idea..
