Running toilet

Hey all,

I have an older toilet that keeps filling up the tank. So water is always going into the overflow tube and running into the bowl. It has a tube like float that you can be extened, but I can't figure out how to get it set so it stops trying to fill the tank. Here are some pics of the tank and float.

Do you have a lot of sediment in your water? (I ask because of the discoloration). It looks like the water in my house, only the inside of your tanks is cleaner than mine.

Sometimes the float valve can get sediment inside and get all jammed up and you need to take it apart and clean it. It sounds like the float is not sensitive enough or is set too high so the water is filling too high-- possibly. Other possibilities are that there is a leak from the flapper so it has to keep refilling.

I had a similar problem but a different type of flush valve assembly. I took apart the flush valve and cleaned it to fix the problem. I also replaced the flapper.

If you can find out how to clean the valve it might help.

I'm hoping someone who knows more about those valves can weigh in though. I've never had one like that in any of my toilets (and I'm not a plumber).

Haven't seen one like that in years. If I'm not mistaken they were around before the Fluid-Master. I would be replacing it with a Fluid-Master. There cheep and easy to install.
