Hi All,
I have an issue that has cropped up recently. Since Feb, my RO system keeps clogging pre-filters. To the tune of monthly! These are sealed cartridge filters. So, not the type that can be serviced routinely and are costly!
I cut open one of them to find it covered with a white slime that looks and feels like silicone grease. No smell and the water I did get, before it shut down the system, tasted fine.
I have a 40’ well approx 2 1/2 yrs old. I’m having the water retested now. The well water runs into the pressure tank, then to a three stage filter system (spin down/sediment/carbon block). It then goes to a soda ash system for low Ph, contact tank and then RO system.
Our previous water test revealed only low Zph and nitrates…hence the soda ash and RO.
The system ran fine for two years.
I get zero build up on any of the three filters before the RO and nowhere in the house…only on the pre-filter.
Any idea what could be causing this?
Thanks
