Hi,
Looking for some advice on repacking a valve stem on a hot water radiator. I have tried tightening the gland nut a few times, and there is still a slow seep of water.
I purchased graphite cord to repack the valve, and I understand that I would just take the gland nut off and wrap it around the stem a few times before putting the nut back on.
I have a question before I start. The rad with the issue is on the main floor of a 3 floor home, to add packing do I just need to turn off the heating system or do I need to drain to below the level of the rad. I'm concerned with the pressure in the system (10-20 psi) there will be water wanting to push up through the valve stem.
Please let me know, and any other advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
