We are going to replace our submersible pump in October. We have been using this well for about 25 years and have never loved the water that we get from it. We have a slight sulfur odor and there is staining in the toilet tank and bowls. We would like to remedy this. From what I have read, usually Manganese is the problem. We sent our water to Penn State and the Manganese level was ~9.5x's the standard of 0.05ppm (Iron was below the standard). Our water is not hard, but there is some lime scaling on shower heads and faucets. My wife and I are considering going with both a Manganese/Sulfur/Iron filter and a non-salt softener from SpringWell. They are very expensive, but after 25 years of not loving our water, we are willing to put out the money if these filtration systems can get the job done. I have done as much research as I can, but I have not been able to find out if people are satisfied with these types of filters (at least not from unbiased sources).

Has anyone used these systems (or other systems you recommend), installed these, or have any thoughts about them?

Thank you for any and all help!

Bob

Hi, Bob, I do not see a report for sulfates on the water test. That would help to gauge whether it can remove the smell or not. SpringWell says it can remove up to 8ppm; although, most people can detect 0.1 mg of hydrogen sulfide per liter of water. I would see if you could have your water tested for sulfates. That way you could discuss the results with the company. I hope this helps, if any.

I won't be of much help yet other than to add that I have a similar issue but also with an added significant iron problem. My manganese is slightly higher at .605ppm and my iron is 7.5ppm. After months of researching, I just ordered a SoftPro Iron Master AIO Water Filtration System from #1 Best Water Filters, Ionizers, & Water Softeners. Serving 30+ Years! yesterday. I cannot vouch for this system but in my research, it was one that was highly recommended for iron and manganese removal. I chose this over Springwell only because the Springwell system didn't address iron as well as the Iron Master . I read that the limitations of the Springwell WS1 was 1ppm manganese whereas the Iron Master reportedly addresses it up to 7ppm. From my research, the bottom line comes down to the type of media used. The Iron Master uses Katalox Light media which is reportedly very effective at iron/manganese and Sulphur removal and requires less GPM, which is relevant for me as my pump only outputs 6 GPM. I should mention, this is for my small cottage in case that makes any difference.

Again, I'm just a DIY'er and cannot vouch for the Iron Master as only time will tell. Ray from Quality Water Treatment was who I dealt with and I'd estimate I spent at least 3 hours with him on the phone over the pastvfew months. I spent $1300 which was about $250 less than the price they had on their website.

I don't know if this helps or not but good luck to you (and me) with these issues!
