I'm looking for a .375" o.d. stainless nipple. I talked to a tech at grainger who recommended one that's listed as 1/4". It's their catalog # 1xap6. They don't give o.d. measurements in their catalog but 1/4" npt is supposed to be .504" o.d.

Help appreciated.

I'm putting the nipple through a hole in the top of a pressure cooker and using it to distill water. The hole is about 3/8" so I need a nipple with .375" o.d.

Distill water ehh?:D I'll call my supply house and see what they say.

So far I have found 1/8" Pipe to have an OD of .405, can you drill out the hole in the still?

3/8" Soft copper tube is .375, there should be no reason you couldn't use copper in you mission.

Or 1/4" Type K or L hard copper.

I thin we has a Moonshiner amongst us! Do we get a free sample? :D

Believe it or not, I'm actually distilling water. You should see what is left after distilling NYC water - or what builds up in the toilets after about 2 weeks.

I was thinking to use stainless steel so as to not get copper coming off.

No kidding? I just came from a trip there and all the residents were boasting that it was the cleanest and purist water in the country? Sure tasted good to me but again, I like Coors Light!

I ended up getting a 3/8" stainless steel tube. I'm wondering what size die to use to thread it? It's .049 thickness.

Thanks.

As far as pipe threading dies go. You only have 1/8", 1/4" and 3/8". And those are all ID sizes. The pipe threaders make tapered threads. Anything else may make straight threads which are going to surely leak.

I do like white corn.

Anyway can you drill and tap the hole, thread the pipe with standard thread, use a lock nut and neoprene washer? Or just leave the hole unthreaded then use 2 nuts and a neoprene washer? You won't be operating much over 212ºF (because there won't be much pressure inside if there is water coming out) and the washer should stand that.

Easy to change occasionally. The PRV safety on my pressure cooker is rubber, lasts for years.
