Hello,

Looking to turn off my boiler pilot light. I turn knob towards the gapped area shown and there is a stop. In this position the pilot light remains on. I assume it needs to be in the cut open area? Someone suggested lifting it up? It already is in the springs up position. I would think lifting it would just remove it from its stem? This setup is different than what I am used to. How do I get this in off position? Would be nice if there was an arrow....but...no.

Thanks,

Wayne

I believe you should push down on the black knob in order to advance the pilot light to the off position.

Knob can only be pushed down in open cut/slot position. Then it does not turn. It's very confusing.

I am wondering if the knob was put on wrong by boiler guy.

Usually those knobs can only be installed one way. Find the notch, push down, and rotate to the off position.

I will mess with it again when I get home. But it's not that straight forward. It can only be pushed down in the slotted area....then its locked from turning. Hopefully I will have a solution this evening. Thanks!

If you cant get it at the gas valve just shut off gas to the whole boiler

what Voleti said ''If you cant get it at the gas valve just shut off gas to the whole boiler''

The gas control valve is usually red or black and is located on the front of the boiler. The dial selector should be pointed to the "On" position. Turn the dial past the "Pilot" position to the "Off" position. This shuts off the pilot as well as preventing the burner from igniting. -- you shouldn't see any flame from the pilot tube. If you only want to turn off the boiler for a few minutes for servicing, turn the dial to "Pilot." The pilot flame will remain lit, but the burner won't cycle on.

Ok....thanks everyone. Here's the deal. The base of the dial forms a point in the back. Only clue where home base is. I turned the dial and....here's the trick....slightly drop the plunger...not all the way...cause it will be blocked if you push too far. Has to be like 1/4 of the way. Then it can complete its rotation to OFF in the back of the unit. Too tricky for most to want to deal with. What's wrong with instructions on the valve assembly? I guess that adds to the cost of the part. By the way...its called a White-Rodgers gas valve. Also ...yes ...if all else failed I was going to cut the gas.
