My brother called me late in the day to say his water heater had burst and asked me to help him change it out. he lives in the country, an hour outside of town with no traffic.

I prefer copper but his house is only 9 years old and is done with pex.

There is one joint I made from the old 3/4 to a new valve and new section of pex that I really don't like and want to redo.
He says don't mess with it, "the go/no go says it is ok and it holds water".
I say it is a failure waiting to happen.

He has a fully finished basement with a full drum kit and huge flat screen, I almost can't sleep at night thinking this will pop and flood his basement.

Am I over reacting or should this crimp be removed asap.

thanks guys,

Thank you Havasu,
I am going to pull it next weekend when I can visit him.
Crazy how the mind works, but I actually dreamed it popped, took an hour to get back to sleep.

It might hold forever.

Not really worth the risk, as easy and cheap as it is to fix compared to how expensive the failure could be. Change it out ASAP.

The ring was crimped crooked, it happens from time to time. I prefer to cut the ring off and crimp a new one, but you can usually just re-crimp it to make it straight again.

redo again and have a peace of mind ..... is better that way....
