P trap in balcony drain

I hired a contractor to fix my balcony which was covered in vinyl and had only one drain. They added a second on the opposite side of the balcony and and Teed onto the existing drain which goes to the downspout. There wasn’t enough room for the new drain to have slope and still hit the old downspout to drain out sontnhey added a P trap to bring the pipe level back up so then it would slope down. My concern is that water will sit in there all the time and in the winter it will freeze and crack that in the water will just start leaking onto my soffit which is directly below my balcony. Is this a valid concern or can P traps flex enough to not crack in the winter. I have never heard of and exterior P-trap

I talked to a friend and he recommended ditching the reducer and using a full-size 90 and then AN eccentric reducer on the horizontal. I think it would work.
