Hi All,

I have a 64,000btu natural gas one pipe steam system the house is 2 floors total sq/ft is under 2,000 there is also a ground level (basement apartment) which has heat connected to the same boiler but its a water heating system with a circulating pump attached to this furnace.

Just recently I converted my second floor to all electric heating and I removed all the radiators from the second floor, I been doing research and some indicates that I may have an issue in the winter because my furnace now is too big. I do have a Nest thermostat connected which should help with minimizing when the furnace turns on but is there anything else that I can do to make sure that I won't have issues this coming winter. I think the steam pressure now is set to 1.5 so I plan on lowering it as much as possible perhaps .5. Any thoughts anything else that could be done from my end.

Thanks,
Adam

Best thing to do is have someone size the section you want to add, also the best thing is to leave any adjustments to the heating specialists, except for setting the thermostat,in my opinion for a thermostat, all you need is a programmable one, no need to play with it once it's set, except when there's a cold snap leave the heat on all the time till it warms up

There was nothing added but subtracted which is the 2nd floor radiators. Those so call experts you mention not always exist, plumbers in my area don’t know enough about 1 pipe steam systems and even when I had issues last winter I had to fix it myself by asking around online.

One pipe is a real speciality , i doubt most plumbers even know that such a thing exists. you might try looking up steam speciality contractors . I have my steam licence and yet only worked on a one pipe system only once .
