Hi,
When we replaced our gas range, we discovered that the old one was hooked up with a flexible metal hose from the basement. Since the new range was being delivered the next day, we called around and found a plumber who could put in a new gas line and do the hookup. He had great referrals and is a nice guy, so we didn't get a hard price up front because he had to see the hookup and the range wasn't there yet.
He removed the old pipe, and installed a new one through the floor, maybe a three or four foot iron pipe. He came back the next day and did the range hookup. So two trips, 1 gas pipe, and one connection (we had a brand new connection kit).
He said the boss would bill us. One month later we got a bill for $423.
That really surprised us. The range itself we got on sale from Best Buy for $400!
Is this a high amount for a gas hookup, or is that the going price? We live in RI.
Thanks. We're really not sure what to do.
