Good morning:
I need to shorten an existing hot water copper finned baseboard heater by 2 feet or so to make room for a woodstove. It is part of a 90 degree angle corner section so I'd like to shorten the existing one if possible instead of replacing the entire run.
1. Can I just pull off fins and cut the pipe an resolder the riser coming up from the basement in its new location? I would then need to trim the outer cover as well. Or do I need to order a new unit?
2. The copper riser comes up from the basement (accessible from below) but is attached to Wirsbo 3/4 inch PEX. There are no cinches or crimp rings and I was told at the time that Wirsbo is attached by "heat shrinking" it onto the connectors. Can I extend the Wirsbo with a standard clamp/crimp connector and non Wirsbo PEX or is Wirsbo not compatible? It is a 8-10 foot run from my boiler so I could sweat copper instead if that makes things easier.
Thanks gang.
