Seeking help with my bathroom lavatory sink, a Moen one-piece control (a knob you pull out for flow, rotate for temperature). No cold water comes out. When I rotate it fully counter-clockwise, I get full hot flow. As I rotate it clockwise, the hot flow reduces as it should, but no cold water is added to the mix, so when it's fully clockwise, there is no flow at all. It's as though the cold-water supply valve was turned off.

I guess it must be in the faucet itself (as a blockage in the cold-water line seems unlikely). Is this a common failure mode for these faucets ? (Mine is about 27 years old). Should I just replace it ? Thanks much !

P.S. It's been very cold here (like almost everywhere), but my "encapsulated" crawlspace is staying at 60 degrees or so, and all the other faucets work fine, so I think it's just coincidence.

Turn the cold water stop off. Disconnect the cold supply line from the faucet. Place disconnected side of supply in a bucket and turn cold stop back on to see if you have flowing water. If you have flowing water then your problem should be in the cartridge. If the faucet is in good shape and still looks good enough for a repair Moen will send you a cartridge for free.

It started working again. Sorry for the wild-goose chase. I guess some air got in the line while I was gone for 2 weeks. I thought I left it on long enough to flush it out, and there was no gurgling, spluttering, and hissing, so I'm still not convinced that's the case.

Seriously ? On one that's over 25 years old ? Wowsers.
