So please be kind with the insults.

Am using Delta universal rough valve. 4 bathrooms. Have one tub/shower trim and valve insert complete.

Does the rough in valve stop the hot and cold water or do I have to have the cartridge in to do that?

If cartridge has to be in to stop the hot and cold from mixing then I win the southbound end of a northbound donkey award. That might be why my water heater isn't working. Its confused with water coming at it from two ways. Eeeee-awwww.

Thanks phish. That's why you guys get the big bucks. Have ordered test plugs for other three valves.

Respectfully,

Jack ask

Does the rough-in valve have integral stops? If so, you could close the little stop valves on each side and prevent the water from mixing inside the valve body until you get the cartridges installed. If there aren't integral stops, you may want to install shut off valves in an accessible area, for both hot and cold, so that that they can be serviced in the future without shutting the whole house down.
