Came downstairs and noticed my floor was wet and there’s water coming out of a pipe. After some research I believe it’s the relief valve. I have a hot water boiler heating systems if that makes a difference. I’ve read some horror stories online from people who got estimates from plumbers coming saying you need a new expansion tank, valves and etc.(thousands of dollars).

I also read that some DIY people were able to take care of themselves, very simply. I was just looking for some clarity.

Do you have you boiler serviced???
Do you have an expansion tank (looks like a propane tank) ordoyouhave an expansion tank thats hung above your boiler that you periodically drain????
Do you have a pressure gauge on your boiler???what is the pressure, when off/ when on should be less than 30 psi

Open and close the valve a few times, hares water sediment builds up on the seals. If it still leaks, tap the valve handle with a hammer . I mean gently tap, don’t wack it . If it still leaks, you may need to remove and replace it. I flush my tank and open and close the valve yearly . Usually drips / leaks a little bit when I’m done , a few light taps usually seats it. Been doing this for the last 10-12 years. Just my 2 cents.
