leaky kohler faucet

I have a leaking bathroom faucet. I bought a seat assembly kit to replace. Started removing the handle. Where do I go from here. I can't see to get anything to budge. Thanks for your help

Place the stem in the half open position before trying to loosen the nut.

Good call on that. Usually a no brainer for those who know.
Very common mistake for the novice.
