Got a question on a plumbing issue. My kitchen sink isn't draining properly. It's one sink with a garbage disposal. When I run water it seems to not go down the drain, I'll turn the garbage disposal on, it will drain, but then a little water comes back in the sink. I took the drains out under the sink, ran a snake through them all, even like 20 feet into the wall, nothing seems to be clogging it. I also put baking soda and vinegar in the sink, let that sit for 15 minutes then dumped boiling water down. Didn't work. Anything else I can try on my own?

The blades for the garbage disposal are turning, and I disconnected the pipe from the garbage disposal, couldn't find anything clogged in there.

Thank you for the help.

Your clog is further down the line or your hand snake isn't doing a sufficient job. Kitchen sinks, especially with disposals can be a real prick to clear. You want a good sturdy cable, 1/4" or 5/16" and keep working at it, you may have to run the line 3-4 times to clear it

Whatever you do, DO NOT do what everyone does and go for a bottle of Drain-o or Liquid Plumber. If you already did, just call a real plumber.

Thanks for the reaponse. I honestly think the clog is in the garbage disposal. My wife's uncle, who built my house 7 months ago (well we moved in 7 months ago) is coming on Monday to fix it. Just is a pain not to have a kitchen sink for a few days.

Also, the dishwasher works fine, that's why I'm guessing the clog is in the garbage disposal.

Is it just me or does it sound like it may be a venting problem? Do you have a crawlspace or a basement? If you can access a cleanout that the sink is on I would try snaking that. Also the blades on a garbage disposal are on a plate that is set just above the drain. There is clearance on the sides and some holes that let the water run down to the drain. Frodo is right. if the blades are moving it isnt your disposal.

He taught me that the first day on the job... :(

Thanks for all the responses. The only reason I think it's the disposal is because the water from the dishwasher drains down the same pipes, and it drained fine. It it was clogged further down, wouldn't the dishwasher not drain properly?

I do have a basement, but it's finished so nothing g is exposed. If it gets fixed tomorrow , I will report back to what the actual problem was.

Thanks again.

 dishwasher drains okay and it is connected to disposal.
What happens,
if you plug the opening into disposal.
fill the sink 3/4 full and release the water.

Does it just sit there and not drain at all or does it trickle out.
If it is not draining, just do a quick bump on disposal switch on/off.
does it drain out after the bump.
How about a picture of the drain from the disposal.
maybe how it's piped.

Well you guys were correct. It is clogged down the line so.ewhere. I bought a 50 ft snake, and it pulled some food back with it. I just can't get it past the last bend before it gets to the large pipe. Pretty sure I need an electric snake to fix it, which would be a 5 min ute job if I owned one, which of course I do not.

Guess it will have to wait till tomorrow for the fix.

Sorry, the reason I figured this out is because it fully drained overnight. I ran the water and it drained fine for like 30 seconds or so then eventually ran out of clear pipe and water was in the sunk. It drains really slow if I just leave it.
