Hello everyone,

I just installed a Insinkerator Evolution 55SS and had a question about duty cycle. My hope was that I would be able to leave it on continuously, with running cold water, while I scraped dishes. However, after about 7 minutes the motor hits the thermal shutoff and then requires 20-30 minutes to cool down.

Is this expected behavior or do I have a bad unit? I've read through the literature but the only information I could find was that it might shut down if run for a "long time," or words to that effect. Since no actual figures are given, I figured the company would probably not be very helpful at this stage and I'd rather exchange it at the store.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Garbage disposals are designed for intermittent use, the motor definitely not designed for constant use. Water is not going to cool the motor as the motor is below the water.
