Hi All...First post...

My wife and I live in a condo and are replacing our electric tank hot water heater due to the association bylaws (it's from 2012 -- however, it has to be under 10 years). That said, Rheem still makes the same water heater we have in place, and I checked the warranty fine print for a new installation -

"The Applicable Warranty Period is six (6) years of warranty coverage as follows: one (1) years of Full Warranty coverage followed by five (5) years of Limited Warranty coverage if the water heater is installed in a single-family dwelling. If the water heater is installed anywhere other than a single-family dwelling, the Applicable Warranty Period is one (1) year of Limited Warranty coverage only."

Our question is "does anyone know if Rheem considers the installation in a condo unit 1) a commercial installation or 2) a single family dwelling installation...? No worries, if no guesses, as I plan to call Rheem too; however, I could not get through today, and they are closed now (so, I thought I would post here for anyone who has run into this question previously).

Thank you very much.

You would have a 6 yr warranty. It’s a single family residence.

You have to read the fine print on warranties. For example, the warranty may require that the appliance be installed by a licensed plumber with a permit… so sometimes there are at catches with these things. The catching this case may be that you can’t do a DIY job nor can you hire a handyman.
