How to get cartridge out??

Hi all,
This is my first cartridge change and I'm not sure whether the cartridge comes out from with the handle base (two handled) after removing the handle or if I have to go under the sink and remove the entire handle assembly first.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try unscrewing that escutcheon, which has the rope look edge, which should get you to the nut which holds the cartridge in. Keep in mind, removing the escutcheon may allow the faucet to fall through the bottom. It's ok, just be prepared.
