After cutting out the 60 year old cast iron pipes and fittings, I cut off three of the hubs and drilled out all the lead and oakum. I removed the 3" cast iron pipes and soaked the hubs in engine degreaser for a few days. I then dried the hubs with compressed air and cleaned the inside and outside of the hub with a wire wheel. I bought oakum from the plumbing supply store and 6 inches of 3" cast iron pipe. I put the 6" cast iron pipe into a hub and packed it with oakum all around to about 1" below the top of the hub. I am getting ready to pour lead. Can anyone tell me how many 1 lb lead ingots I need?
