Gas water heater was winterized and not used for 6 months. Water turned on, opened cold water valve to fill tank, but it never stopped filling and soon water was coming from the insulation around the cold water inlet pipe that goes down into the heater. We shut the valve off to stop the flow. The pilot lit just fine. We opened the hot water valve and all the hot water faucets in the house - but nothing at all came out - just a sputter but never any hot water. We drained the water from the drain valve and it was hot. There are no leaks anywhere else and when the tank is drained, it does not leak from the top. Some one told me to try a new PRV? Someone else said it seems like the valve is bad on the hot water since it won't go anywhere. And others have said we just need a new tank altogether. I would appreciate any insight!! I've attached pictures - if you need any more, let me know because I have a ton of them!!

The heater needs to be replaced. You may also have to replace the main valve if your not getting any water from the hot lines with the valve on. From the looks of the date on the heater it is way passed it's expected life.
