In my infinite wisdom, I did not realize the need for a nut-coupling in my supply line going into my back-flow prevention unit.

The water supply was not shut off before winter and as you can imagine, I now have a burst valve going into the back-flow device.

I really don't want to have to dig a hole down to the main; is it possible to unscrew the split valve while leaving my supply line intact or will I have to cut it?

Details: galvanized supply going into brass back-flow assembly

yes, you can unscrew it. but,,it is factory tightened..its gonna be a PITA
use 2 pipe wrenchs..18'' would be my choice.1 to loosen, the other to hold a back up

if it was me,,,i would dig a hole. put that valve under ground in a valve box..in winter,,stuff box with insulation

after you blow down the system
