I'm installing two frostless lawn hydrants. I'll be drilling through my basement wall to hook into the pressure tank line and then running pipe to the two hydrants. My trench will be four feet deep, and I'm wondering what sort of pipe to use. Can it be pex? My trench will be mostly straight with a couple of turns in it. Can I use the same material through the wall?

I like copper on deep frost lines frost line.

Copper is good. What size line? and what kind of Hydrant are you talking about?

It's a frost free hydrant. Hook an elbow and line to the bottom, and when the handle's down, the water drains out of a little hole above the elbow.

Can I use something other than copper? We have extraordinarily hard water, and it'll turn copper pipes black in short order. Then I get bits of black sulphur things that clog up fittings. Plus, I don't want the expense or hassle of soldering copper.

As long as your below the frost line you can use pex, in some states even pvc
