Completely clueless on plumbing here but I need to hook up the water line to my new fridge and I don't have any idea what coupling to use.

Any help would be appreciated

It is hard to judge sizes via the pictures, but I think that you should be able to disassemble the coupling in the bottom picture and thread the nut on that copper pipe to the left side of the coupling in the top picture.

Ah ok so basically I remove the coupling from the copper pipe and screw the fridge line into the copper line nut?

Usually fridge lines are 1/4". I usually use a 1/4 steel braided supply line but if you don't get one then do what phishfood said.

What is the brand and type of the fridge? I think I can figure out the size if I know the brand and type of the fridge.
