diy'r needs help with shower 1 handle cartridge gasket

I have an old house that has a Lasco 0-2061 Price Pfister flow-matic tub and shower cartridge
i did not use any gasket sealer and the gasket worked at first, but failed soon after.
i believe it failed along one of the 2 small openings.
and I wanted some pro advice on what to use
I think the original installer used some sort of sealer, at least to make it tacky but i really don't know

It does usually take a day or two for responses to show up

I guess this member doesn't understand that our members here are volunteering their time to help other members. They also work 10-12 hours a day, so responses normally take longer than 4 hours.

What a shame.
