To the centre of the closet bolts or drain. With the toilet off, measure from the finished wall to the centre of the drain, should be approximately 12". Most bowls are compatible with 12" or 10" roughs, it's usually just the tank that needs to be changed.

Nov 7, 2015 #5 the guys answers are spot on. they make specialty bowls for a roughin {bolts] that are to close 10'' to the wall and for a rough that is to far 14'' away they are called 10'' rough and 14'' rough bowls this is a residential toilet we are talking about a commercial toilet, with a flush valve, roughs in at 10'' from the wall not 12'' Last edited: Nov 7, 2015
