Dishwasher drain hose full

I have ~5 year old Bosch 300 series dishwasher. I recently inspected the unit for maintenance and cleaned the filters out. During this inspection I noticed the drain hose had water sitting inside it. Since then I've run a few cycles and after each cycle water remains in the hose. No water remains inside the dishwasher.

I've included a photo -- you can see water is sitting in the hose in the loop area as well as near where it empties into the exhaust pipe. Is this normal?

AKA, install a high loop by securing it to the underside of your countertop, or as close to it as possible.

Brings to mind that 1968 Western movie "Hang 'em High". This applies to dishwasher drain hoses too.
