Im reworking the drain pipes under my kitchen sink and have run into two issues.
1. The existing piping and p-trap under the sink all appear to be schedule 40 pvc, but the plastic tailpiece I got from Home Depot is not. Even though everything is nominally 1.5 inches, the tailpiece has much thinner walls than schedule 40 pvc and therefore cant fit snugly into any of the schedule 40 pvc fittings. Is there some kind of adapter you can buy that can join one of these thin-walled tailpieces to schedule 40 pvc? Where can I get it?
2. Im pretty sure the tailpiece from HD is polypropylene not pvc. Can you cement polypropylene to pvc? Do you need a special cement?
3. And as long as were at it what about differing materials under the kitchen sink, generally speaking. Is it kosher to mix and match different materials ABS, PVC, polyethelene, metal under a kitchen sink or is that some kind of code violation or generally bad idea.
Thanks!
