Plumbers fell out with general contactor then GC “stepped back” from our house to “save us money”. We are trying to finish the plumbing ourselves. Our shower has 2 regular shower heads and a rainfall head in the ceiling. We told plumbers who did rough in that we wanted to be able to turn one on at a time or all 3 at once. I have attached picture of the diverter valve that was installed. I ordered a Delta trim kit for a 3 way diverter. We installed and we get 1 shower head, both shower heads then the 2nd shower head. No setting will work the rainfall. I can’t find a 4 way diverter trim kit which is what the plumbers told us we needed. Any idea if a 6 way will work with what we have in the wall and still work all the heads? Afraid we may have to change the valve in the wall any advice is very appreciated!

The 6 way diverter cartridge and trim is what you need if they piped it correctly. I can’t see how it’s piped.

The rough valve in the wall is the same for the 6 or 3 way.

Here’s how it must be piped and here’s how it will function.

Sorry but you can’t make all three shower heads function at once, not and be able to control them independently.

You can only have one or two functions at a time, not all three.

Even if you could with the volume of water being split between 3 functions I don’t think you’d get the shower experience you’re looking for.

I took the equivalent of a flow restrictor out of the shower system I just installed. This gives us more water to split between functions while using them at the same time.

This turns the Delta Rp10000 rough valve into a shower only high flow valve.

I use to get referrals from plumbing showrooms when the customer wasn’t happy with how their shower functioned.

The new construction plumbers had a hard time piping them correctly. Same for body sprays, they wouldn’t make a balanced loop and you’d get uneven flow volumes out of each head.

The customer would complain to the plumber and the plumber would complain to the showroom that the valves or equipment was defective.

Showroom would hire me to go check the situation. 9 times out of 10 it wasn’t piped correctly. The homeowners would pay me to correct it or write an invoice stating the problem.

So it is a common thing to not have it piped right.....especially when it’s done by pipe slingers
