I have a 1.5" copper water main. It comes into the house in the garage, up the wall 9' and into the space above the garage where it reduces to 1 inch pex for my multipurpose fire system/home water. I want to add a whole house water filtration. The plumbing would go from 1.5" reduced to 1" through the filter and back to 1.5". I am adding a domestic bypass in the event of a fire so at a set pressure drop, the valve will open and bypass the filtration system ensuring there is enough water for the sprinklers. My question is: for the bypass, can I run it with 1" also (it is much cheaper) instead of 1.5" fittings? meaning from the 1.5" main to a 1" reducer to 1" PRV to 1" residential riser assembly, back to 1.5" in the garage. Once it goes into the attic will go back to 1". I am sure this is clear as mud but I can answer questions.
