Yes, this is long. Trying to give all the info I can up front.
I have a dripping tub faucet that I'm unable to stop. It's an Eljer single handle from 1998 (builder installed).
It's been dripping for awhile, and at first it would drip for a minute then eventually make a strange "bloop, bloop..." sound for a few seconds and stop. I usually had to turn it on and back off (fairly hard) first. Now that doesn't work anymore so it always drips.
I've checked Lowes/Home Depot, but they each only carry parts made by Danco and they offer nothing for Eljer. I used Danco part 80686 "Seats and Springs for Valley" http://www.homedepot.com/p/DANCO-Seats-and-Springs-for-Valley-80686/203194019, which looked identical to mine. I read that Eljer was the manufacture of the Valley brand. But the faucet still drips and is actually worse now, a couple weeks after replacing, than before I replaced them.
Is there something else besides those port seal rings that can make it leak? I did not replace any of the o-rings that go around the cartidge.
Also when I took the cart out, I there was a T-shaped tab on side (top?), but not on the other side (bottom?). Should there be? I'm not referring to the square guide tabs on each side. Also I failed to note the which way the T-tab faced when I took it out (or how many there were). I put it back in with the tab on top. Hope that's correct.

I also want a new bonnet nut, since mine is corroded on the outside.
Lastly, the cart is difficult to get out and back in. I wanted to get some silicone to lube the o-rings that surround the cart, but am confused since you're not supposed to use anything petroleum based, yet this Oatey Silicone Grease has petroleum in it:

Is it not enough petroleum percentage to degrade rubber?
