I have received a lot of conflicting advise on reddit so I figured I would come to a real plumbing forum ;) I am in the process of adding a shower to an upstairs bathroom. in this image the 2" air vent used to have a sink attached half way up. I just removed it and am in the process of adding a shower. I've been told by a few plumber to use a Santee at this connection and that this would pass inspection. don't worry about angles etc.. I suck at drawing with the free software, I know I need to keep the 1/4 slop per foot which shouldn't be an issue. I more need to know if I can use a santee like this. plumbing-santee-vent.png

As Twowaxhack said, a Sanitary tee there is the correct fitting to use. However, your sink now is not vented. That elbow immediately after the sink P-trap needs to be another Sanitary tee with the top of that tee going up and meeting the vent line of the shower.

Thanks guys, I can see what you are saying. All of this plumbing is existing and approved, the only change I am making is that the air vent used to have a sink off of it with a Sanitary Tee, which I removed and made the 2" pipe whole. Under the floor where this pipe goes up, I am going to tie the shower into that. As you can see in the pictures, the pipe going up into the floor is the vent pipe that had the sink attached. They all tie back to the main stack. There were 3 sinks, one is on its own 1 1/2 pipe with an AAV on it they are all connected to the Wye at the main stack.

So basically.
  1. Air vent, remove the Santee and make air pipe whole, first picture
  2. Second picture cut horizontal pipe, add a sanitary tee. One goes up to vent, the other goes horizontal through the joist to the shower drain. All piping is 2"
  3. Pretty sure behind the wall of the existing sink is a Sanitary tee, which my drawing did not show. Actually I had a master plumber plumb this so almost 100%, Plus it passed inspection.
So with this information is my drawing correct, other than the sink.
