I have a 1974 mobile home. Last winter the furnace went out & the pipes froze. They are galvanized & a T broke. I had a plumber look @ it & he said it could not be repaired without replacing all the pipes in the home with pex. Said the vibration would cause it to crack elsewhere. My thought was cut & thread 2 of the 3 pipes then unscrew the T & replace it & install unions on the cut 2. Living on SS & having just replace my futnace I need the cheap way out.

They are upselling you. I have cut and replaced numerous galvanized pipes, with the caviot that the homeowner understands that the pipe SHOULD be replaced soon.

Get another bid and only ask for what it needed to get you up and running.

lastly, you should always get a minimum of 3 bids for any work needed.

Galvanized fittings can be brazed or silver soldered, but the galvanization must be ground off first…and of course, be fire aware!!

Yah I kinda thought so. They also told me my little tankless water heater was illegal & they would also have to replace it with a regular one before they could repair the pipes.
