Hey guys, need a bit of help. My parents had asked me to help them a while back on fixing a leak on a frost proof outdoor faucet. I have been lazy and just haven't gotten around to doing anything with it and now that I have some time I'm going to travel to their house in a week to try and fix it again. I had tried a few times before, but the nut to remove the faucet was rusted on. I tried using PB blaster, tapping it with a hammer, and the nut won't budge. That's kind of where my problems started, that darn nut won't come off (you can see it in the picture).

With some great advice from you guys, I know my next option is to just carefully drill the bolt away so that I can remove the faucet, access the bad washer, and replace it. Or, worst case scenario, I'll have to remove the faucet all together and replace it with a new one.

My parents' water bill has gone up lately since the leak has gotten bad, and if I can't fix it, I'll have to hire someone which is fine but we would like to do it ourselves if possible.

But as a backup, I wanted to know, is there anything you can just go buy at a local hardware shop and just screw on to the faucet to stop it from leaking? The faucet has threads for hose attachments, is there any safe thing that I can screw on to stop the leak?

You mite try a brass garden hose cap / hose bibb cap , If the cap works, do not leave it like that through the winter it will freeze.

Exactly what I needed, thanks a bunch! And I will not leave it like that for very long since winter will be here in a couple of months but this will at least buy me some time:)
