40 Gal. Electric Water Heater Over Heating

I have a 40 gal electric water heater that’s over heating every now and then.

Every few days the water gets really hot and the relief valve discharges.

What could it be ?

Nevermind, It was a grounded element.

It was heating at a reduced rate 24/7.

If you ever experience this. Call me.

Mine did similar, but it was a bad thermostat, heater wouldn't shut off until it tripped the other thermostats high heat overload. (Scalding hot water, and then cool to luke warm) the funny part is that it would reset itself somehow, even though there was a rest button on it. And the cycle would repeat..... Just changed the thermostat , all good
