I'm doing a 2nd bathroom project which may entail drilling a hole in my basement wall for a drain which will connect to my sewer line outside the house. I plan to use 4" abs for the line. I've read that the penetration through the wall requires that there be a sleeve of some sort larger than the drain pipe. In discussions I've read, its not very clear. it would seem that a sleeve would be required in order to protect the pipe in case of movement. the code says the sleeve needs to be 2 pipe sizes bigger than the pipe. So I would need to drill a quite large hole in the wall, insert some kind of sleeve (rigid?) into the hole and fasten it there somehow. then I need to pass the drain pipe through the much larger sleeve and then seal it up somehow? Has anyone done this?

Thanks

typically, for a 4'' pipe you would use a peice of 6'' schedule 40 steel pipe
and have your core driller drill a 7'' hole or a 8'' hole
insert the sleeve, then concrete the sleeve in place

when running your 4'' pipe, install it center of the sleeve not touching the sides
seal the annular opening around the pipe with FIBERED tar
