I have a Whirlpool all-in-one run of the mill very standard water softener (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R62N8SQ)

I also have well water with some sediment in it (dark rust-like sand...stuff) and it eventually clogs the softener drain hose. I check the venturi screen and the screen down in the brine tube/well and the only place where there is significant build-up of sediment is in the drain hose. I have to pull the drain hose off because the unit isn't draining or really operating, and clean the drain area out. But I can see the drain can only exit through a tiny hole in a flow plug in the drain hose.

My question is...why is there a flow plug in the drain line? If the drain line was fully open, there would never be any sediment build-up, and the unit wouldn't clog so easily, or maybe ever.

Can I just remove this drain line flow plug, so the drain is wide open? Or does it perform some function?
