Hello everyone, I have a John Wood oil-fired water heater that is going on 15 years old. Oil tech was just here and told me it was starting to make a percolating sound, so I figured it must be loaded up with sediment.
I've drained many water heaters before, but they were very simple drains, just a really cheap spigot on the side of the tank, and they've always been full of foul stuff.
This time, there were two pipes soldered into place before the drain. Never noticed it before, figured it must be some sort of recirculation loop. I opened the drain, nothing but perfectly clear water came out. I guess that's water coming from the pipes and not the tank drain.
Is there a way to drain a tank with that kind of setup?
