I have a question for those of you who have experience with wall mounted Toilet carriers

I had an issue with a wall mounted water closet.
The original installer had added 2 layers of 5/8"drywall behind the bowl on the wall to fill a gap.
It was presumed that the original installer did not know how to use back nuts and washes to adjust and the position of the bowl.
The face of the drain fitting was flush with the drywall.

I procured a set of nuts and washer to properly support & adjust the position of the bowl.
I discovered that the lower pair of bolts where not centered with the drain.
About a 3/8" below centerline. This prevented the grove on the back side of bowl from alignment with the drain.
Therefore preventing the drain face from properly seating into the wax seal.

I needed to get this toilet mounted and back into service.
I spent 4 hrs pulling and clearing the drain last Friday.

The face of this drain does not look like it was adjustable.
It protrudes from the wall about 1-1/4" from the main finished wall.
( 5/8" x 2 layer of drywall to fill gap).

I'm guessing the original installation of the carrier was to close to the finished wall and maybe the adjustable nipple was omitted entirely.

If I had opened the wall to expose carrier would it be very likely that the bolt pattern could have been adjusted to centerline of drain?

I am not pleased with how I left it. I spent 4 hrs previously and another 3 more dickin' with it to reinstall it.

I did re-hang it with back support nuts/washers.
So it is not resting on drywall spacers, but setting against washers backed up by nuts.

you need to open the wall and adjust the carrier.

the drain is adjustable up and down, so you can adjust for handicap/regular

4 bolts and a gasket

on some carriers, their is a tab, on the bottom of the plate, that you cut off to go lower

i dunno if your has this or not

Thanx FRODO

This does not seem to be a typical carrier like you showed. The bolts on that one are fixed on centerline with the drain. I can see how that drain will adjust up/dwn , but the bolts and drain adjust as a unit with the bolts always being centered.. This drain is fixed.
I was curious if you have ever seen one like this. The one show clearly has an adjustable nipple. This one in question does not.
The drain immediately turns down into the floor, almost like a low-heel outlet 90.

I'm thinking if I did open the wall, I would find a homemade steel plate that was drilled and tapped. Maybe what I am looking at is a low hell outlet with the hub sticking out of the wall.

I'm done with it for now. I told customer NO Guarantee because that is not a typical carrier. He thinks his father put it in yrs ago.

I did an image search and found these. They are similar but links to them where not helpful
