columbia sc,
I have a water hammer throughout the house which I have read is most likely due to the water pressure being to high. Can I just partially shut off the supply line or do I have to install a pressure reducer/regulator?

Thank you

No. A partially closing a valve will not help. It will only reduce the volume.
High water pressure is usually not the cause but can contribute.
Buy a $10 pressure gauge and check it on a hose bib. Anything over 80 psi by code is considered excessive.
Ideal would be 50 to 65 psi. When and where does it hammer.
