Hi,

I’m looking for some help from US plumbers for a problem I am having with fitting a US manufactured bidet attachment in our bathroom in the UK. Partly about size and compatible fittings and partly about sourcing the necessary adapters.

I’m a pretty handy do-it-it yourselfer who has installed several bathrooms, kitchens and wet radiator systems (but NOT the gas bits) over my 50+ years of adult activity.

For a number of reasons that I don’t need to go into here, I have chosen to fit a Luxe Neo 320 Plus bidet attachment. It is non-electric and has hot and cold water connections. It has US male connectors on the fitting and eventually I have to get to UK 15mm copper pipework.

I am happy to buy components online from the US, even if they take a while to arrive.

I have tried to find out everything I need from the manufacturer, Luxe, but whilst they have been generally helpful, they have clearly decided it is too difficult a problem to bother with and have suggested I return the bidet to Amazon for a refund.

I think it is solvable and just needs a little thought and identification of the correct adapters.

The bidet has hot and cold connections and comes with a 15" stainless steel braided flexible connector for cold water which they say is 3/8" x 3/8". It comes with a plastic 10' hose for the hot water which apparently is 3/8" x 8mm (compression). I would prefer not to use either of these supplied connectors because the stainless steel one is too short for my needs and I think it is ugly to have one s/s pipe and one white plastic pipe connected alongside each other.

I want to buy a pair of s/s flexible hoses that are at least 24" long that connect onto the bidet, which are then long enough to disappear under/behind our units where I can do the adaptive plumbing out of sight. Picture 1 shows the area of the bathroom as an aid to understanding.

So my plan is to connect in the following chain for each of Hot and Cold supplies

Bidet (3/8" NPSM male” ➔ 24" long s/s flexible hose ➔ adaptor(s) ➔
UK s/s flexible hose with ½” BSP compression ends ➔ 15mm copper tube ➔ UK 15mm isolation valve, tee’d off supply plumbing.

Here are my specific questions -

1. What size actually is the bidet connection? Luxe say it is 3/8" NPSM male. But it is smaller that the 3/8" NPT adapter I have bought from the US. I have measured across the outside of the male threads with a vernier gauge and they measure 14.2mm (0.55"). Whatever size it is, where can I get a pair of 24" s/s hoses that will fit on it and have a suitable termination at the other end for question 2.

2. I have bought from the US a pair of adapters ½” NPT female to ½” BSP male (see picture 2) which I know on the BSP side will allow me to do all the UK connections I need, with isolation valves etc. (I also have a pair of adapters that are 3/8" NPT female to ½" NPT male when I erronously thought the bidet connection was 3/8" NPT male - but it is much smaller.)

So, assuming I can’t have direct connection of 24" s/s hoses with the bidet attachment at one end and a ½” NPT male at the other end, what adapter will I need to acquire to get from the end of the 24" hoses to fit into the ½” NPT female side of my existing adapter? And where can I buy them online? I usually buy from Amazon if they carry things on the grounds that their delivery to the UK can be quite easy.

Many thanks in anticipation of your advice.

Mike

That looks magic thanks 929. I have been searching unsuccessfully for that exact adapter for weeks.

I had to fiddle a bit with Amazon's setttings to actually get to look at it which explains why it never showed up in my searches when I have been looking for it. When I tried to buy it, Amazon.com flipped me over to Amazon.co.uk and said they couldn't find it. But after pretending for a while to want to have it delivered to my son in New Jersey, I managed to get the system to consider selling me the adapters, and then it even accepted a last touch change of address to the UK. Cross my fingers and they should be here in about a week. If they fit direct onto the bidet (as the measurements they quote say they should) then I can do the switch to BSP at the bidet and go straight onto UK s/s flexible hoses with no further distractions.

Thanks again.

Mike
