G'day guys,

I've got a toilet on my property that I haven't used in over 1 year and about 90 minutes ago I had the brilliant idea to check if it still worked.

Well, 90 minutes later and it's still fllushing...

How can I turn this off without affecting the other parts of my house that need water like my shower, kitchen sink, the other toilet etc?

We're in the middle of a drought down here in Oz and there are strict rules for how much water a household can use... 😭😭😭😭😭

Thank you!

Open the tank and lift float and shut the flapper....after you shut off the valve allowing water into the tank.
Post a pic once you shut off the water.

Thank you for your reply havasu!

Is there a way to turn it off and stop the constant flushing without opening the tank?

I'm just worried I will do damage by opening the toilet tank... 😢😢😢

Edit: just fixed up "Im"

Wow, I'm so nervous about lifting off the top of the tank.

Is there a time limit to how long it can keep doing this constant flushing? The toilet was installed in 1990 if that helps with the toilet technology that was used back then?

Please let me know if there's another way for me to stop the flushing....?? 😭😭

We mostly reside in the US. Since I've never been to Australia, I don't know what your toilet looks like so please post a picture so we can help you. By the way, it sounds like your flapper is stuck open, and will not stop until you take corrective action.

I don't have much money but I appreciate your sincerity so I'm trying to make a very small donation via PayPal!
