I just moved into a house recently. There were two heating zones, one of which was in the attic and has very likely not been used in a long time, or possibly ever. I just finished insulating up there and am getting ready to turn on that heating zone. I am curious if there is anything I should be aware of in terms of the system pressure or simply using old pipes that may not have had water in them in a long while.

I would have another person in the attic while you turn on the water. Who knows if there was water in the pipe
and left alone. Pipes do freeze and break. Try and go around in the attic and inspect all the piping that you
can reach and see before turning on.

Thanks Tom. I ended up doing this yesterday, with a person in the attic watching the pipes. Good thing too, because there was a leak in one of the pipes. Seems that whoever last turned off the zone didn't properly drain the pipes. Got the leak fixed and all good now.
