I am installing a new tub. The existing trap and waste lines are brass/copper. I purchased a brass trip lever drain assembly at the same store as the tub. My problem is that the assembly is too short for the tub. There is not enough brass length from the drain to the overflow. The place of purchase only has this one brand/model of brass assembly. It says on the package that it will fit most standard tubs but not so in this case. I need about 2 more inches of length (no jokes here).I could go with PVC if there was a way to get a brass tailpiece out of it to match the existing brass trap. What can I do? approx. length from centerline of drain to centerline of overflow is 16 1/2 inches.

Going to have to adapt to PVC. You will either have to cut the pipe before the trap, or after the trap and also get a PVC trap. Use a copper-plastic mission band coupling to transition from copper/brass to your PVC.

you need a desanko... it is a copper trap adapter

it fits over 1 1/2'' copper and the tail piece slips into it

that will hook up the waste an overflow to the trap

as far as from the tee to the overflow
why not use a 1 1/2'' extension tube
